HEAT WAVES 2026 Artist Talk

1 Aug 2026

Please join us on August 1st for an informal panel discussion, where each of our four HEAT WAVES artists in residence will talk about what they've been up to during their residency! This in person masked event is free to attend, and will run for about an hour from 2pm to 3pm in the Wonder'neath project room on the first floor of 2482 Maynard street. Each artist will have a chance to speak, followed by a group Q&A period. More information about each artist can be found on our HEAT WAVES 2026 page. The event will be live-streamed for audience members who would prefer to join virtually. For those attending virtually, please register ahead of time by clicking here.

HEAT WAVES is an annual, low-pressure residency program where emerging and aspiring artists are invited to create and experiment at their own pace. Residents receive 24 hour access to a studio space, a small materials stipend, and the chance to participate in a public talk at the end of their residency. HEAT WAVES was created to give local, early-emerging artists facing systemic barriers to entry and limited professional experience the opportunity to participate in a funded residency. HEAT WAVES was developed in 2019 by Maddie Alexander, and has since become our most anticipated annual program.

Access Notes:

Eyelevel maintains a strict Covid-19 policy, meaning that all guests are required to be masked during the artist talk. Free respirator masks (KN95 and N95) will be provided at the door. Eyelevel will have two HEPA filters working before, during, and after the event. We will have a CO2 monitor on-site to track carbon dioxide levels. We will have hand sanitizer and Lysol wipes available at the entrance. Visitors are requested to not attend if they are feeling sick.

2482 Maynard Street is a wheelchair-accessible building. The building has visitor parking with reserved accessible parking spots. There are push-button door openers at the main entrance. The building has wide hallways and all doorways are a minimum of 36" wide. 2 non-gendered washrooms (one with a changing table) are located on the first floor. One is large, wheelchair-accessible washroom that has grab bars and room to accommodate an aid/personal support worker. Both washrooms have sharps containers. A quiet room is also located on the first floor. 2482 Maynard Street is a low-scent, all-ages, low-stimuli building. Please refrain from wearing any strong scents when visiting the building, especially patchouli.

Wonder'neath Art Society, our landlord, has published a comprehensive access guide for 2482 Maynard, which can be found here. Please note that this guide covers a lot of information about the space, but does speak specifically to Wonder'neath's programming and operations, not Eyelevel's.

An ASL interpreter will be made available for this event.
