Both Susan Mills and Charles Murphy reside and work in rural areas of Cape Breton but there is nothing in their art to suggest a specific geographical theme. So, one should not expect to see landscapes of Cape Breton in this collection to be shown at Eye Level. Nor should one expect the work of Mills and Murphy to be alike simply because they live in the same general vicinity. Any similarity in their art results from their influence from the artistic community of Cape Breton and the personal and reflective quality present in their work. Murphy showed photographs in which he incorporates collage and painting. The subject of his work reflects his recent experiences teaching in Northern Manitoba. Murphy also combines a somewhat casual appearance with content that has a powerful emotional quality.
