As Long as the Joke Lasts / tu, tu, t-swe-e,tu, tu.
Urban showed an installation piece entitled “As Long as the Joke Lasts”. This work consisted of a panel of black and white charcoal drawings of various animal-like figures, and a reflective glass panel. A hoop sculpture covered in artificial fur was also included. The animal portraits are reflected in this mirror as are the viewers passing in the corridor. The glass sheets bounce the images. Their segmentation suggests animation; reflected and repeated the drawing shifts and moves along the ten foot length. The hoop, standing at one of the corridor, suggests action, exercise and movement through. My objective in this piece is to create a tension between the two dimensional drawing surface and the three dimensional sculptural element. The viewer becomes the activator of the piece.
