Quarantine of the Mind is about being a gay man in crazy times. In two performances, writer/actor David MacLean will bring his multi-media, one-person show to Halifax. Using slides, film, pre-recorded audio and live monologues, the performance is a series of vignettes exploring gay men’s fears and concerns surrounding AIDS. Written and performed by MacLean, it humorously examines the precarious nature of living in an era when AIDS has changed what being gay once meant. His characters, aspects of his own persona, are gay men seeking answers in a void of uncertainty. Whether weighting the pros and cons of taking HIV anti-body test or sending up the therapeutic double-speak of a safe-sex councilor, MacLean always finds humour and succeeds at entertaining his audience with characters which affirm the resiliency of the human spirit.
