Miller exhibited work which presented images as objects; some framed, behind glass, others on paper, plastic, a table or wall. The images are photographs and drawings. The photographs entitled “Old Faithful” will work along with the drawings of letter forms to probe our contextual spheres as determined broadly In language, geography, social history and our bodily needs. At the same time Miller continued an installation entitled “English” in the Gallery store room. The images in Old Faithful, the first of two works in this exhibition, derive their title from a popular outdoor attraction of the same name. Using already reproduced images of the geyser, Miller has reapplied it’s image using current industrial applications of advanced photographic technology. Through historical and technological distancing, the artist attempts to reveal aspects suppressed by the making of the original image in 1871. The spectacle’s original sublimity is destroyed, reconfigured and finally raised beyond redundancy. In the second work, entitled English, the artist will expand on a piece of the same name exhibited at Eye Level Gallery in 1987. The storage room of the gallery complex, in all its variable parts, will be rearranged within the exhibition space of the Gallery. While continuing its usefulness as stored materials, it’s function will be determined within the duration of the display. 26.3
