“This show was conceived while working on a previous show. That show dealt with environmental issues and how adverse conditions affected the Earth. Toward the later stages of that work I began to explore how those conditions affected people, indirectly and with this new work, more directly. Environmental themes are still present in this new work, as well as ideas about trauma. Some of these paintings address physical contact while others deal with issues (such as Second Hand Smoke and Frost Bite). All relatively common subject matter.” The artist installed four large paintings which form a box. The content of the work is tees, with actual roots spilling into the soil surrounding the work. Above the edge of the plywood paintings, the trunks and boughs of the trees arch toward the ceiling.
