In the Carbert exhibition entitled Dwelling, the artist employs lino-cut prints combined with text to examine the issue of housing as a symbol of security, familiarity and comfort: particularly how it relates to large urban centres. “In the present economic situation in Toronto and other large cities, home has become a privilege rather than a right, and our choices about where we live are limited by our financial circumstances and current laws. The threat of losing space, through high rents and sales of buildings is ever present, thereby limiting the ability of the average person to feel the security a home should offer.” – artist statement. The exhibition focuses on a conflict between permanence and transcience, in a particular time in which the distinction between private and public becomes blurred.
