Blue Anxieties at the Joe Osborne Gallery
A persistent theme of Belonging permeates my art practice. The evolution of this theme, from internally-based abstract landscape metaphor, to externally-based text from the information stream, is a departure from familiar monologues. The transfer of texts from one location to another, forming new narratives and dialogues is one way of studying the universality and significance of those texts by observing their reception elsewhere. What characteristics are required for the new entry to be recognized, and for there to be a sense of Belonging. What characteristics dictate which segments of information are retained and how accurately they are recalled.
Handmade objects coincide with my fascination of the inaccurate. I'm also fascinated how a factory makes sheets of paper or other objects inaccurately as if handmade. It's clear that the value of 'handmade' is not in the flaw, but in the inherent declaration of being at the individual level. Blue Anxieties is an exploration of the fabric of memory, unexpected irony in word choices, and connotations of colour as well as a simple participation in the information stream.
